Skin Care in it’s truest Sense…

Autumnal Musing - Skin Care for your Immune System

Often the change of the seasons and October is a time of year when we start to get ill, you might be used to taking supplements and upping the veg, have you heard of looking after your skin?

Looking after your skin is another beautiful way of strengthening the immune system and a proactive way to stop the cause of becoming run down by stopping bacteria from entering the body. The skin is our protective layer, part of our first line of defence of our immune system.

Jen Hawkins' puts it beautifully that "if we think of our bodies as a storage vessel, or a container for the precious being it holds, then it's important to think about the maintenance and condition of that container. There is no point in storing water in a vessel that is cracked or leaky; it simply wouldn't fulfil its purpose. Similarly, we need to maintain and preserve the health and condition of our bodies. A system that is constantly overloaded or prone to infection doesn't serve us or allow us to reach our true potential.

The move from autumn towards winter brings with it a cooler, deeper energy that is more grounding and introspective in nature. It's a time of boundaries shifting and the need to provide a robust and reliable container to hold all that flows, as we batten down the hatches and prepare for the winter months to come".

She recommends Essential oils for assistance with the immune system: Laurel, Spanish Sage & Tea Tree. In our InnerSense Massage Oil, Angel's Whisky, we use Black Seed Oil for this purpose. The Black Seeds that make the oil, were supposedly found in Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt! Black Seed Oil helps:

🌱 Simulating and balancing immune function.
🌱 Calming swelling and discomfort through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.
🌱  Directly causing anti-microbial effects against viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

Our Massage Oils are a huge part of the Massage treatment we offer from the Shop in Morecambe, you might have tried them at a Women's circle, as part of our self-massage taster session. Our handmade herbal oils mixes are uniquely designed integrating our InnerSense Guru Philosophy into the scents and were made working in collaboration with a local Lancashire supplier as well as integrating other essential oils from all over the world. (We will be releasing more information about our oils soon). The oils contain beautiful flowers and plants from nature, that all have specific health benefits to sooth the skin and work in harmony with the massage, opening a portal through the oils from plants to the mind, body and emotions in the treatment. What I love most about looking after the skin with oils is the nurturing benefits that our own touch can have on our bodies. The skin is one of the largest organs of the bodies so it’s important we look after it. How massaging my skin with oil shows me when I am far away from myself and in my head, when I find it difficult to nurture myself, and other times when I am relaxed and more centered it's super easy to enjoy this self-care, self-touch routine.

Placing oil on the skin our protective layer can really help to remind us where our bodies boundaries are and call our energy back to ourselves. This caring simple process really does help us to journey within and prepare ourselves for winter. Naturally reminding us that by doing less for our self-care we are actually doing more. This contact with our skin realigns our boundaries for being less out there and more inside.
